So why did our daughter Jennifer have to say this the other day... "just went dancing in Kigali - yes, I did, really, and it was quite the experience. So what if we're almost 40 "..... :)
What does that mean?.... work ethic.... remember the story I told about my friend Steve interviewing a 30-something guy for an executive position in his company... asking him for a response to some one liners he threw out... "what does this expression mean to you?" ... the expression he threw out was "work ethic"... the response to the question was a blank stare... "could you perhaps rephrase that, sir?" I mean like the young fellow was totally clueless as he climbed his ladder of success... he stuttered and fumbled...
The other day I decided it was time to end my annual attempt to grow a beard for the winter.... this year it lasted about 10 days... Ellen was very good... no comments about her scruffy looking husband... or how much older I look with fur on my face... none of that stuff... :)
So I decided to just bless her and get rid of the scruff... trim up my hair, my mustache and goatee... well.... she gives me this neat hug and says thank you... then says.... "you know... you look 10 years younger!" Gotta luv it!
There are times my poor wife must think I have totally lost it.... like this morning... when I put on this ladies red hat and a bola... took a picture and posted it on facebook with the comment that I dressed up that way to serve some food at one of Ellen's Tea Parties... it was for the Red Hatters... so I came out all dressed up and asked if I could join.... :)
That's what it is really... this thing we call life... one great adventure... once we understand it.... we begin to see how life is just one continuous great incredible adventure... we have to go back and close the door of course... otherwise it will look like one disaster after another.... like that list I went thru the other day... they are either the next great adventure that lies just around the corner...
That's what's running thru my head right now... how do I say this... I mean... this stuff is real... it's another part of our history... each one of these bizarre things that's been happening... they have progressed from a few times a year to almost every time we seem to turn around... wild! It is a whole new season for us.... so how do I talk about it?
Every time I get bailed out... I turn to mush.... God's love for me overwhelms me and I turn into a large 75 year old ball of mush! Having a thankful heart is not going to be good enough to describe it... one thing after another has happened... all of them pointing to total disaster... and the Lord bails me out... once again....
Wednesday we are having our last day at the Lake... our guest/friend "100-visits" Uncle Bill.... he needs a room and wants to know if the offer still holds to stay with us at the Lake since the house has been totally sold out..we say... sure...awesome!
One thing I am sure of.... everything out there beyond that open door is backwards..... actually at the least.... it's backwards.... more probably it is totally upside down as well. And we just don't get it... we live in a terrible darkness and just don't see it... can't see it... until we go back and just shut that door....We really believe that we can learn absolutely everything about life by studying it... philosophysing about it... dissecting it... and chewing every morsel till it is totally gone....
We drove up to the Lake again on Friday... all the while kinda hoping our string of near disaster arrivals there would come to an end... :)
Ellen has a little plaque she sells in her giftshoppe that I enjoy... it lists what the House Rules are: "If it opens - close it; If it rings - answer it; If it's on the floor - pick it up; If it's dirty - clean it; If it's hungry - feed it; If it's sad - love it."
Wouldn't life be a lot simpler if everybody in the house did that! :)
