That's where I left off last time.... suggesting that there might just be something else here... instead of what we have always been told.... This is what I said in closing the other day...

...the other path
Religion wouldn't actually offer us anything called the "path to self-fulfillment"... but that is in fact what is being offered... it gets couched in quotations from the scripture... complete with the individual religious system's twisting and turnings of what those scriptures mean... done in order to prove the stuff they teach is true... of course it also happens to be the same stuff that they were taught... and obviously bought... because they continue to teach the same stuff today... and it is the stuff....
..the seduction of religion
I did some turn of the century name dropping last time ... among those... the one name that triggered the greatest uproar back then... was Mrs. Jesse Penn Lewis.... she was involved in the Welsh Revival of 1904-05 with Evan Roberts... they co-authored the Christian Classic on spiritual warfare... still a very controversial book... entitled "War on the Saints"...
my favorite tune
My favorite tune was always to have everything perfect... the perfect job... with the perfect income (lots of it...) :) ... the perfect wife who would begat perfect kids.... in our perfect house with perfect neighbors... in our perfect neighborhood...
...today's tune...
We hear it played all the time... today's tune... we hear this tune played all over the U.S. ... doesn't matter where you go... it's played everywhere... it's the tune titled... "Self-Fulfillment".... it's choruses ring in our ears... "It's about me and mine"... "what's in it for me"... "I don't do anything I don't wanna do"... "I do the things that make me feel good"... I could make up wonderful choruses like this forever! :)

Sometimes I think I was living on another planet back in '99... that is not 1899... it is 1999 I'm referring to... I've been around a while but not quite that long awhile ago.... :)
...fine tuning
So I was thinking more again today about what I was saying the other day... and what finally came out of all my Musing was... how we human beings always fine tune everything in order to say either what we want to hear.... or rationalize away the things we don't want to hear... we are so incredibly good at this... especially us who happen to be part of the religious community... :)
...life...mom...and other things
After going on a bit yesterday about the war....I was Musing about it again today... I mean I taught about the war... preached sermons about the enemy... was part of conferences about the war... and I was totally clueless... I was religious... I didn't really get it until January 2006 !
...absolute necessity
Relationships... connections... friends... those other dots... our own Band of Brothers.... folks who walk closely with us... any other way we can say this... those people are an absolute necessity in order to make it thru our journeys. I cannot say it strongly enough... I am so thankful for all those connections in my life... totally excited ... and now this re-connection to Chris... think about it.... :)
