I promised a little more about this new, exciting, normal vicarious living thing, so here it is.
We think life is supposed to be lived on the mountaintops.....but we can't quite seem to climb up there every day. So we create our own rushes constantly looking for the big one, the big anything, the big wave, the big kahuna, hitting the home run that wins the game, jumping out of our own version of airplane.... (or maybe off a bridge on a bungy cord!)....anything to escape our inane, boring existence from the zillion menial tasks before us each day.... each and every day!
I thought when the Lord told us: "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master." I thought it meant that if I was faithful in the little things He gave me to do, then He would give me the great big kahuna things to do!
Based on a few experiences in life of chasing after that thing..... I believe a much better rendition of the scripture would be: "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful with a few little things, I will put you in charge of many more little things; enter into the joy of your master."
I have truly enjoyed that discovery. I cannot tell you how freeing it is to never again have to get that big hit! That there is a total joy I have entered into about every menial task, every single day. It's supposed to be that way...simply doing His will for my life..... it brings joy to the journey...... joy in every mundane things He brings across the plate....and I get a hit every time. It may not be the game winner....not always the top of the mountain....but just as exhilarating. I am so thankful for each new day....so thankful just in getting up out of the bed every morning....no wise cracks here please about how anyone my age ought to be thankful for that! :)
Forget all that hoop-de-do about climbing the highest mountain, being the hot shot....try looking at every single little thing as directly from His loving hand..... embrace it....enjoy it..... it's what he has for you today.
