B&B Newsletter

September 11, 2010

It was working... all of our cutbacks were giving us more time together just for ourselves, family and friends... even with our biggest January ever... it was looking good... all of the things we talked about in our last newsletter were working... strange February weather gave us even more time together as it played havoc with skiing in Vermont... had our worst February ever.... :)

We stumbled along thru Spring... until summer arrived... and then it happened... business went absolutely thru the roof... over 60% occupancy in July and August... September and October look like more of the same... it was insane... we were as stretched as ever... so we had to go back to the drawing board.

We didn't want to increase our rates to slow things down. With this crazy economy, we wanted to continue to bless people with reasonable rates ... at the same time we wanted folks to continue to fill our rooms so we can pay the bills around here... :)

One thing we thought might help... has. As I mentioned January was such a great month... yet we didn't feel the pressure because we had rented the entire house for 5 days to a wonderful group of folks who cross country ski... we practically had a vacation up at our Lake Cottage.... it was a whole new thing.... so we decided to start marketing the entire house... we were late for the summer wedding market but booked the whole place for a couple fall wedding weekends... also a family reunion in November... with interest being expressed now for weddings next summer.... we expect this will be giving us some needed breaks away from the house since we are not providing any services... we'll just go up to the Lake once people arrive.

I had wanted to give more frequent updates and pictures but never seem to be able to get to it... can't seem to carve out time to write the next Newsletter.... so.... the new plan is to not only catch up but also make regular postings... using the new page we started at Facebook...   Hope you'll check in regularly to see what's been going on.

Another thing we want to do is to ask all the folks who have said so many wonderful things to us and written those things in our guest books... to maybe help us a little by writing a review at both these websites..

  • Bed & Breakfast.com

  • TripAdvisor.com

Reviews are presently the biggest thing happening in the Bed and Breakfast industry... everybody is checking places out by reading the reviews... the more reviews the better...

Thanks for all your help. See you on Facebook or Twitter... If you are interested... we also have our personal Facebook page... and my blog where we are making regular entries of all that is going on in our lives and in my head.... :)
