Capitalize or substitute words?
I have written below, Philip's Paraphrase of John 17: 16-23 based on the understanding I shared yesterday. It sure sounds awesome to me! :)
Where the word sanctify is, you will see set apart instead. Where those "small letter" renditions of the words word or truth appear, you will see it is either Jesus speaking about Himself or a capitalized version of Word or Truth - referring to Jesus (who is the living Word, the Truth, the Life! ) If we keep them small letters, then the word in our 21sr century minds means the scripture. The scripture is not holy. It is the dead letter of the law which men read intellectually, debate intellectually, teach about intellectually, rip apart, change, argue, preach and carry on about intellectually.
Until the Holy Spirit opens our hearts and Jesus comes into us (literally) and lives in us, the scripture is a dead, meaningless book to me or to anyone else who has not been born again. But God sent His Son and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and the Word came into my flesh and now dwells in me because I was born again by the Holy Spirit and suddenly the scriptures came to life for me because He is Life!
Where you would normally see those all-inclusive, impersonal they or them words, (which somehow I tend to read as all those other guys, you know, the holy people or the professional religious folks), I have personalized it and substituted my name instead. I would encourage you to put in your name and replace mine :) ....and just see how this reads to you. It could change your life.
This is Jesus speaking to His Father.
Philip is not of this world, even as I am not of this world.
Set apart Philip in Me; for I am the Truth.
As Thou didst send Me into the world, I also have sent Philip into the world.
And for Philip's sake I separated and set apart Myself, that Philip himself also may be separated and set apart in Me.
I do not ask in behalf of Philip alone, but for all those also who believe in Me through the words that Philip speaks of Me; that Philip and all of those who respond to his words, may all be one together with Us (the Trinity),
even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that Philip and all those others who respond to his words, also may be in Us; that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me.
And the glory which Thou hast given Me I have given to Philip; that Philip may be one with Us, just as We are One;
I in Philip, and Thou in Me, that Philip may be perfected in the unity he has in Us, that the world may see and know and believe that Thou didst send Me, and that Thou didst love Philip, even as Thou didst love Me.
Oh me, oh my.....now is that cool or what?
