kings and things

  • Musings
I've mentioned before, how the Lord uses Oswald Chambers to jerk my chain from time to time.

I read his daily devotional every day, love it, recommend it - My Utmost for His Highest - simple to get to online at http://www.rbc.org/utmost/index.php

The more I pondered what he was trying to say, the more I began to tie it together with other things and knew it was time for me to try to express my musing about it. He used this scripture from Exodus 20.....

19 Then they said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, lest we die.”

I just kept thinking about how Israel was always wanting a King to rule over them. All the while God is trying to get across to them that He wanted to be their King....He wanted to rule over them....He wanted to be involved personally with each one of them. Now here, in this Exodus scripture, long before the old "we want a king" stuff, they were basically saying the same thing....you do the talking to God thing Moses, then come and talk to us.

So, what's up with that? Pretty simple really (I'll tell you why in a minute) and it's still going on today. That's right back to all I said previously about the Clergy/Laity deception......we see to our modernized version of a king that we still want, Mr King person, you go talk to God.... or Mr. Pastor person, Priest person, Reverend Person, Preacher Man.....you go talk to God and then come back and talk to us........ OK? So..... now....let me tell you why.

We want somebody else to go talk to God, because we are afraid of messing with God ourselves and know that if we go to God directly, we might just have to do what He tells us to do. If I go to God for you and come back to you, you can just blow me off, rationalize it away, tell me I'm judging you, blame somebody else and continue to do what mankind has always done......"they did what was right in their own eyes" That little thing has been going on since that time in the Garden a few years back when Eve bought the lie from Satan that God was really nervous about her eating that apple because then she would be as God , knowing good and evil. Each one of us has been playing God for ourselves ever since.....deciding for ourselves what is good and what is evil and....could care less what God thinks and do not want to go to Him to find out just what it is that He does think! I can tell some other human being to go fly a kite, stick it in your ear or whatever but I am a little reluctant to say that to God......I'm maybe just a little bit afraid I might end up burnt toast or worse..... We just do not understand how much He loves us and longs for us to come to Him....just be real, be honest....I guarantee you will NOT be toast.

Sometime ask me how I know that! :)

I'll leave you with this one..... if we can only discover the incredible depth of God's love for us, we will never, ever be reluctant to have Him as our King, to allow Him to rule over us, to go to Him personally about everything in our lives, to learn to hear His voice, to fall more and more in love with Him every day and desperately desire to follow Him and obey Him every moment of our lives.......in John 14:15 Jesus tells us very simply and clearly "If you love Me, keep My commandments" (obey Me, do what I say, it is for your good, so you will be blessed, so you will come into the fullness of My purpose for you)

It really works that way. Once I saw His great love for me ("He first loved us")....I fell in love with Him....the more I love Him, the more I experience His love, the more I love Him.....on and on...it never stops....and, you know...because I love Him...... I keep His commandments.

Forget about all those guys in the middle....make Jesus your King.....fall in love with Him....and just go direct!
