did you know?
The Delights of His Friendship. Genesis 18 brings out the delight of true friendship with God, as compared with simply feeling His presence occasionally in prayer. This friendship means being so intimately in touch with God that you never even need to ask Him to show you His will. It is evidence of a level of intimacy which confirms that you are nearing the final stage of your discipline in the life of faith. When you have a right-standing relationship with God, you have a life of freedom, liberty, and delight; you are God’s will. And all of your commonsense decisions are actually His will for you, unless you sense a feeling of restraint brought on by a check in your spirit. You are free to make decisions in the light of a perfect and delightful friendship with God, knowing that if your decisions are wrong He will lovingly produce that sense of restraint. Once he does, you must stop immediately.
Much as I would like to have written that, it isn't really me saying it.....it is my old friend Oswald Chambers (well I am not quite that old to have actually met him but I feel like I know him really well).... :) My guess is that he probably said this back in 1917....the year he died. Since he said that thing about being in the "final stage of your discipline in the life of faith" my guess is he was in that final stage.... otherwise we just continue to grow in our life of faith. 1917 was the year the Lord took His friend Oswald home to be with Him.
Oswald was in Zeitoun, Egypt (near Cairo), where he ministered to troops from Australia and New Zealand as a YMCA chaplain during World War I. He died there November 15, 1917, following surgery for a ruptured appendix. Oswald was only 43 years old.
I know that I won't be in the "final stage" until I am in the final stage! I am thoroughly enjoying my friend Jesus, every moment, every day right now. I don't sit around with a saccharine smile talking about how I long to be with Him and hope He'll return a week from next Tuesday. He has a plan and a purpose for my life. He has a plan and a purpose for your life as well. When He is finished with that plan, He will come and get us....not a day before.....not a day after. That is in His hands. All I need to do is to obey Him until that day.
I have no fear of death, nor do I sit around thinking about when, where, how or why.....nor do I proclaim a bunch of phony religious words about how much I long to be with Him and can't wait till I am in His presence. Maybe folks like that ought to try enjoying His presence now. .....then maybe they wouldn't be in such a hurry. Their lives must be pretty boring. Actually, I am quite happy when I look at the paper in the morning and do not see my picture in the obituaries.....:) It means He has something more for me to do today.....and that is truly something I am looking forward to..... today!
When my final stage time eventually happens......I will welcome Him and embrace my friend in a new way..... when He takes me home with Him it will be the right time.....His time.....and I will simply continue to enjoy Him in another place.
In the meantime.......I just might write another posting or too.
