....back to the drawing board
Somehow it became " we did it wrong.... so let's figure out how to do the great thing right!"
I am a little slow at times. :)
I had ended up in the restaurant business by default and slogged away at that for over 8 years....dumbest thing I ever did......horrible lifestyle.....very difficult employee situations all the time..... impossible to make any money...... after 7 years I was begging the Lord to let me out.... He finally gave us the OK after 8-1/2 years in June of 1994..... we shut it down....paid all the bills .... then Ellen and I took a month off to travel out West, celebrate our 25th anniversary and get reacquainted after all the years of 100 hours weeks.
Never made a nickel in the restaurant business...... just ate a lot of food that needed to be used up .... Did manage to lose 55 grand in the process though (lost money/put on weight) ...... :) a zillion lessons along the way..... finally saw a little about the gifts God gives us and began to see a bit about how maybe it was OK to not be a big shot. :)
We missed some of the things about our old church system..... and I kept trying to recreate the good part of all that.... in His mercy He kept His hand against it..... but, as usual, I didn't get it and thought maybe God was wanting me to take the offer I had to be the Pastor of a small Congregational Church in Roxbury, VT. I did that for two years while still doing the restaurant, once again expecting God to move in some mighty way and turn the UCC upside down and backwards...... not! So..... after preaching 152 sermons, I resigned to coincide with shutting down the restaurant..... and was my poor wife ever ecstatic about all that..... not to mention a whole month with just the 2 of us together seeing the wonders of creation in South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. It was one of the best months we ever had together.
But..... still not getting it, we instead got involved with a group up here that almost killed me....physically, emotionally and spirtually.... body, soul and spirit. Fortunately, that led me to the fence that day in 1999 and.....at long last..... I began to get it!
