just another day!
I play golf midweek every day I can....love it....love the sport...love the exercise....love the break between shifts here at the B&B....but most of all, I love to touch the people in our old guy's duffer league that tees off at 1 pm Monday thru Friday.
I was chatting with one of the guys the other day and he asked me how business was going. He is a Catholic guy...really believes in God and I've engaged in God talk with him on a variety of occasions over the years...so... I thought it was safe to tell him how the Lord was just blessing our socks off...sending us almost more than we can handle and how the last few weeks have really stretched us.
I was pretty surprised to hear him take the usual world's line about how wonderful we are, what a great job we must be doing....all the usual stuff that says it really all depends on us, how we promote and advertise, etc and has very little to do with God. He even gave me the St. Benedict quote that tells us we should all pray as if it all depended on God...... and work like it all depends upon us!
I tried to explain that....no... it all really does depend on God and not upon us.... but he just didn't get it. The whole concept of God actually being in control of things and all I do is take the things He puts on my plate and do them heartily as unto the Lord..... that whole concept was totally foreign to his thinking and understanding.
Things like really truly enjoying whatever I have to do today was much too much to grasp... all those ordinary, grundgy, mundane, normal things.... cut the grass, cook breakfast, clean up the mess, do the laundry, put out the trash, serve others, play golf, love my wife, pray, see the kids....whatever....all of that was just part of His plan for me today.... enjoy it big fella!....have yourself a blast doing it with Him.
Anyway...I was musing on that today and so there you go...another little trip thru Philip's mind!
:)
