I was sitting here looking at the photos on my prayer wall tonight...the folks from New Jersey who were part of the old church from 30 years ago....we can still sit down and take up pretty much from where we left off so many years ago. We have all gone different roads since then but...there is that thing we have...it's called relationship....and we can pick it up any time we touch in some way again...phone...emails...in person....dose not matter...it's always there. There are family up there on the board...missionaries....ministries...B&B friends....Vermont friends...folks from all around the U.S.....relationships.
So, here I am working thru some of Wayne's (the new connection I wrote about) writings today and this just jumped off the page and hit me upside the head.
“This is no distant God who sent his Son with a list of rules to follow or rituals to practice. His mission was to invite us into his love—into a relationship with his Father that he described as friendship."
It all starts with that One Relationship...reaching out to others where then...guess what....have relationships with those others. I think I'll intersperse a couple other little (what I have come to call) Wayne Gems.... :) Like: "When are you going to get past the mistaken notion that Christianity is about ethics?” Yeah....we might just realize it is about relationships!
How about: “It’s not about teaching; it’s about living. Learn to live this life and you’ll find no end of folks to share it with. Teach it first, however, and that will be your substitute for living it.” It is impossible to live it without relationships. Have you ever wondered why Christianity is basically a lecture model......it's clergy/laity.....teacher/student....them and us....it is all form and function and the only relationships are based on doing things together....usually some meeting....with someone up front teaching us or preaching at us. Then we all go home and do our isolated little thingies.
Does that stir anything up inside for you....any little itch there you might want to scratch some day?
