...sojourning
Not a word we earthlings see very often... sojourning... it takes us aliens to understand that sojourning thing... an alien like Philip understands that he just sojourns through this life... the definition for sojourn is:
to sojourn means..... to stay for a time, in a place; live temporarily
we aliens understand that everything in our lives is temporary... earthings believe everything is permanent and forever.... aliens just pitch our tents... waiting for instructions.... ready to move on... it is temporary... aliens do not build permanent structures... doctrines...buildings... systems... programs... we never just camp forever around the last revelation... earthlings do that all the time...
Scripture refers to sojourners as people "who live as aliens" .... Peter the apostle was one of those folks... a sojourner who lived as an alien... he even wrote one of his letters "to those who reside as aliens"... we are not supposed to take up residency here as earthlings and build things to the Glory of God (translated: to my glory)... we need to learn that... Peter needed to learn that... at the transfiguration he wanted to build something on the spot immediately... another time he had another really great plan for God and Jesus response was to tell Peter "Get behind me, Satan"... are you beginning to get the picture here...
Earthlings put together the Roman Catholic Church ... color that permanent... it replaced any necessity to have a personal relationship with God... you just needed to join the permanent structure and become a Catholic to get saved.. Martin Luther had an issue with that and told folks that salvation was by faith in a person that you can have a relationship with... Luther set up his tent outside the existing religious structure.. only problem was he still had an earthing mindset and started building his permanent structures and the Lutherans are still around....
We could take this from denomination to denomination as God sent further revelation to individuals... who unfortunately still only knew to do earthling instead of alien... guess who the ruler of all earthlings is? .......But I want to skip to the Pentecostals... since that was the next Church we attended... for a time... another short season... we left once again... for all the same reasons...
Pentecostals pitched their tents outside the existing edifices after experiencing the "baptism in the Holy Spirit with the accompanying manifestation of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit giveth utterance".... King James English is very important to Pentecostals... as are 4698 other things... other things which varieties of Pentecostals fight about all the time... as each of those varieties went about building their particular permanent earthling structures... buildings... doctrines... etc... ad nauseum....
We moved on again... we are aliens... not earthlings...although... as I have confessed many times before.... I did become one for a season...much too long a season.... tell you about that next time...
but... having said that... I am an alien now....a sojourner... I will never again be an earthling...
