...the connection
I have been musing about the connection between giving myself to relationships and giving myself to writing these postings... discovering that this is an inner passion for both... and they really are the same... the need to communicate... it's built in... part of the original equipment... we need to say our words... we need to express ourselves to others... both seen and unseen others...
We use our words to do that... it's how we create ... it's how God creates... He just speaks His word... He gave us His Son who is the living Word of God... He gave us the scriptures... His written word to us... words seem to be pretty important to God... maybe they should be important to me then... maybe that might just be the answer to "why do I write"....
I need to express myself both with written words and with spoken words... that's how relationships are built... I need to communicate what's going on in my heart... in order to connect with someone else's heart... that's how Ellen and I have grown so close over these 41 years... we talk about absolutely everything... we pray together.. we plan together... we discuss all the things we enjoy... all the things we don't enjoy... it takes time to do that... it takes energy to do that... it takes commitment to do that... and it works... it takes year after year.... it grows... it gets better and better... it's how we connect....
It was interesting to receive this comment from my brother Marc's wife... Lin... responding to my posting the other day about celebrating our 41st Anniversary... She reads all the time and has opened a marvelous little Book Shoppe in France... so it was not surprising that she quoted from one of those books in her shoppe... "Howards End" by E.M. Forster... commenting that perhaps Ellen and I had "something in common" with this quote...
"Only connect! That was the whole of her sermon. Only connect the prose and the passion and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its height. Live in fragments no longer."
Think about it for a moment... see the importance of connecting with others... and the thing we need to connect is our prose (our words both written and spoken) with our passion for relationship.... and human love will be seen at its height...
Ellen and I have become one... no more fragments... we live fragmented no longer.... thanks Lin....
