...today's tune...

We hear it played all the time...  today's tune...  we hear this tune played all over the U.S.  ... doesn't matter where you go... it's played everywhere... it's the tune titled... "Self-Fulfillment".... it's choruses ring in our ears... "It's about me and mine"... "what's in it for me"... "I don't do anything I don't wanna do"... "I do the things that make me feel good"... I could make up wonderful choruses like this forever!      :)

That's just the way we are.  People do that in the world. I expect it to be that way. We are selfish like anything. And that's ok.  That will never change until we eventually  discover (by having a head-on collision with our creator)...   :)

...that the world doesn't really revolve around me... that He has another  purpose for our lives... that this is not  supposed to be all about me and mine and what's in it for me stuff.... but rather that I have been put here for another very specific purpose... to have a wonderful day in/ day out relationship  with God... obeying Him... walking with Him... fulfilling His purposes... not mine... simply being a container  of His life where He has put me doing very simple ordinary things every day.

Unfortunately... God's "called out ones" .... His people... the church... have plugged into the world's mantra of self-fulfillment instead...  and it has become all about me... what I get out of  a relationship with God...  come on... be honest... look at  what we have been offered... what we hear from the pulpits... what we hear from the televangelists... this is all self-fulfillment baloney...

Jesus said... unless we go into the ground and die.... give up everything we think is important and  follow Him... sell everything  we hold onto and go follow Him... if you love me do what I tell you  to do.... instead we are offered  great and wonderful things and told to do  great and wonderful things....

How about that initial fear trip.. the old heaven or hell thing...:  "you don't want to go to hell do you... do it our way... we have the right way... join our church... pray our prayer and then you will get to heaven...you will be fulfilled...have everything you will ever need"   or... how about....

God doesn't want you poor... give and it will be given to you.... you can be rich... God a has a mansion for you to live in... you will walk on streets of Gold... visualize that big expensive car and put a picture on your refrigerator... ask God for it and it will be yours... give to our XYZ Ministries and God will pour on of the windows of heaven on you  more than you can ask or think... if you don't have money to give now... put it on your credit card... we take them all.. Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover... what you will Discover  is that you just got in debt... big time...  :)

I'm about ready to get really nasty  here in a minute so I had best stop.... just cut up  the stupid credit cards and try getting out of debt instead...  :)

Maybe we need a little reality check  on all the "name it and claim it"  lies that are preached out there every day.... let's start with this thought...  that following Jesus has absolutely nothing  to do with our self-fulfillment.

Maybe it is time to stop playing that tune.
