......the end of the world...
God really does have a predetermined plan... for all of us...part of that plan is what I have been calling recently... the end of the world as we know it... that world ... as we know it.. comes to an end.... when the things we believe God is going to do for us... even predict God is going to do for us...in fact do not happen..... every follower of Jesus needs to get there... get to that day when... religion as we know it... religion as we have been taught... religion as we understand it... get to that day when that world of our religious understanding ...grinds to a halt... it will be the end of the world for us... as we have known it.... and it is God's predetermined plan for us....
People have been obsessed with the end of the world for a long time... predicting its end for thousands of years... it was an interesting item to Google... over 250 prophetic predictions since 2800 BC... that the world would end at a specific time... obviously they were not true ...since we are all still here.... :)
Predictions of the end really picked up just before the year 2000... over 100 of them from 1998 - 2000... but... they didn't happen either.... things have tapered off a bit since the millenium... but there are still a dozen or more predicted ends of the world supposedly to happen during the next 10 years... the most imminent being May 21, 2011.
You may have seen the youtube video of a pretty well know evangelical Christian group carrying their placards... passing out their tracts... all about how they have calculated that the world is coming to an end on May 21, 2011... and telling folks they had best get right with God... like right now.... 'cause it will be all over very soon...
Of course they get asked the question like: "But what if you wake up on May 22nd and you are still here?"
I would suggest you ask any Christian anywhere that is asking...praying ... and believing God for some miracle... some sort of divine intervention... healing... deliverance .. believing God for something that they desperately want or need... and ask a question like that: "But what if God doesn't do what you are asking Him to do?"
The question will never be answered... because... even to suggest that God isn't going to do what we have asked is considered unbelief... and unbelief would cause God not to do what we believe He promised us... showed us... told us... or in our great wisdom have figured out He is going to do.
We all have to face our individual May 22nds... that day when God does not do what we have predicted.
I didn't learn this by reading a book. I learned it by experiencing my May 22nd.... that day when the world as I knew it.... came to an end... that first bunch of disciples had that day in their lives.... it was that day at Calvary... that was their day... all their ideas of what Jesus had come to accomplish ... just ground to a halt... their world as they knew it... ended that day... they died with Him.
Our death in Christ is much more than a doctrine... an understanding of truth... it is a death experience we need to have... we need to die experientially .... in order to get to the other side of the cross... the resurrection side... where the only thing that matters any more is Jesus... not what he does or doesn't do for us.... where we truly enter into His rest... where there is no longer anything we have to do for Him... not anything...not any more... just walk and talk with Him in the garden of our lives... where He has placed us... loving Him and loving others... those others He brings across our path... just being who we are... where we are...
:)
