Jerry Bruckheimer's desired epitaph: "He really entertained audiences; he made them feel better for a couple hours"...
I think he understands the human condition... people desperately need to feel better... for a zillion reasons... we need to get away from the madness... Bruckheimer gives us that place to escape to... where he shuts out all the uglies for us ... for a couple hours... only problem is... we have to go back to the real world again... and nothing has changed.... nothing.... not our circumstances... not our issues... not our problems.... nothing has changed...especially us.... hmmmmm....
Sometimes I think that is what religion tries to do for us... escape our realities... help us to feel better about our collective messes... shut it all out for a couple hours on Sunday morning... hand out a few religious platitudes....pray for our needed miracles... name them and claim them from the almighty... demand them actually....quote bible verses to us to prove it will happen.... and on and on and on.... then we go back to our real world and nothing has changed... nothing....especially not us....
The plan... God's plan.... the process... God's process ... is not a 2 hour escape from our realities... it is a plan to embrace our realities as His plan and purpose for our lives... and then let Him change us as we walk through these realities... day by day... inch by inch... row by row... suddenly I discover that I am not in charge.... He is.... and I discover that everything around me is changing to whatever He wants... everything....especially me....
Philip's desired epitaph is: "He really pointed people to a relationship with Jesus; he helped them to understand that walking with Him can change me to the point where I no longer have to feel better all the time... I just enjoy my life the way it is today.... He will take care of tomorrow... nothing here to escape from...."
