It is free

"It is free"... that's what he said... "free"....one of the owners of our new web-hosting company... you know... I mentioned them last time..."Innkeeper's Advantage"... they are doing this great job for us.... especially the job of getting Philip's act together... not an easy task... smileyand giving us a whole new way of presenting the Bed & Breakfast at the same time...

He was talking about a free tutorial for me on how to use the blogging tool so I could start to publish some musings again.... we had fun going back and forth about no free lunches and how nothing is really free... it did get me a "musing"... especially about how in today's world... anything that is free has no value... I started thinking of how I have seen that over and over in the Bed & Breakfast... we used to have "complimentary" soda and bottle water... because it didn't cost anything... it had no value... it would go up to the room... a sip would be taken... and we would dump the rest when we went up to clean the room the next day... over and over again it would happen. It was startling to notice that this was not true when people purchased their soda or water at a convenience store and brought it in with them.  When we cleaned up, the can or bottle was empty. They had paid a price for it. It had a value.

The same thing was true for free room nites for charities... big thing... we get inundated with requests... used to do it all the time... no more... because the room nite was free... it had no value... people would schedule their free nite... cancel at the last minute... change the date... start all over again...it was free.. it had no value...

Next time I need to say some things about how that works in important issues... not silly things like soda and cancelled room nites...
