It was time to once again update "Philip's Story"...seems like every couple years... last entry was 2012...
Here we are and two more years have passed.... still having the time of our lives... just slowing down a bit as I await the celebration of my 79th birthday and begin the 80th year of this great adventure called life! The next step for us in simplfying our lives, has been taking the Lilac Room out of our marketable mix and turning it into our private quarters. It has helped us to stop living "out of a suitcase" and having a room to call our very own. No more packing and unpacking to the empty room... no more sleeping in the office.... yay!
I think about a lot of things. Also thought just maybe somebody else would like to think about some of those thoughts...... So I "tweeted" this thought.
what if? what if we could treat success and failure, both the same? what if win/lose didn't matter? Hmmmm - a very different way to live!
It IS a totally different way to live. No more riding the mountaintop of triumph... nor wallowing in the despair of the latest valley of tragedy. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to begin to live in this place... each day... the same wonderful, enjoyable experience... whether it's a win day... a lose day....or a draw day... doesn't matter.
A very good friend once explained to me how I could tell what made people tick... what motivated them... what were they interested in...? He said.... "You can tell what people are occupied with... by seeing what they are occupied with"... :) So... let it be known that one of the things Ellen and Philip are "occupied with" is innkeeping... the idea being that we want our guests to just relax and enjoy their time here... and... well.. be part of the family... we call it "the older tradition of Bed & Breakfasts... :)
We have been encouraging visitors to North Central Vermont to seriously consider establishing a "base camp" here at Village Victorian and make "day trips" around the area. It saves all the hassle of packing and unpacking... checking in and checking out. Not only that... it creates GREAT SAVINGS on the cost of your trip. Weekends around here are always busy, so the rate is higher...but weekdays are $10 or $20 less... turn that weekend into a 3 or more night stay and our multi-night discounts kick in... then find a "COUPON" that works for you and you are saving yet another $10 per night.... Not too hard to take...
Make us your base as you visit North/Central Vermont... take short day trips - you can be in Canada within an hour - Burlington - St. Johnsbury - Northfield - no checking in - no checking out - no packing - no unpacking.... And multi-night discounts apply... the longer you stay - the less you pay ...enjoy the savings while you enjoy Vermont!
Copley has officially opened... had a great time up there hitting some balls the past few days... looking forward to another great day... even have been playing well... hope it continues... :) Grass is changing slowly from brown to green... the course is in really great shape... calling all golfers! It is that time of the year... crocuses have appeared... flowers soon following... love it!
Forecast is 77 degrees tomorrow... do you think we are skipping Spring! It's ok with Philip... I do enjoy all the Seasons... but the eternal "cold" was gettin' "old"... at least for my old bones... looking forward to the warm weather and 9 official holes on Saturday when Copley opens... of course it is supposed to rain Saturday, so I will try to get them in unofficially on Friday... shirt sleeves and 77 degrees... yesssss!
Looking at 60's and 70's the rest of the week... (temperatures... not golf scores..:) .... went up to Copley yesterday and hit some wedges around off brown grass... no snow anywhere... it is all gone... did not go up to play today (wind and rain) but tomorrow looks great... definitely will hit some shots even if we are not "officially open" till Saturday... it will be fun watching the brown turn green as the week progresses with the warm temperatures... join us for the weekend... :)
What we like most about this business is all the great people we get to meet... 1200 to 1500 every year ... Lots of B&B's shut down during mud season, take vacations or whatever... but I absolutely love MUD SEASON! With less folks coming up to Vermont, we have plenty of time just to hang out and get to know the folks who do come up. So... let's just do this thing. Lots of rooms always available in April. Pick a room... any room!
Ellen returns from a week's vacation with her sister in Atlanta... thus returning Village Victorian back to normal... and everything once again is stable... Philip however is never normal nor stable... but blessed out of his socks to have his best friend back...nice to be up to full staff again for all the folks coming in now for mud season... what are you waiting for... book early and often :)
